How to play

Get from the start word to the finish word, changing exactly one letter at a time. Every step has to be a real word of the same length.

Every lane always finishes on the same word. Seven finish lines, the rungs of the ladder the game is named after:

• Only the start word changes, and it changes every day.
• A green tile means that letter is already in the right place for the finish line. Watch them fill up as you close in.
• Any real word of the right length is a legal step, however obscure.
• Par is the shortest route that exists. The long lanes get there through words you would never think of, which is what the hint button is for.
• You cannot revisit a word you have already stepped on.
• Lane 1 has one possible puzzle, because English has two one-letter words. Lane 7 is a genuine expedition. Everything resets at midnight, your time.
